About Our Library

About Our Library

The Mississippi Library Commission has awarded the Sunflower County Library System the Star Library award based on the library's performance in visits per capita, circulation per capita, total program attendance per capita, and public internet terminal use per capita during Fiscal Year 2015.

The mission of the Sunflower County Library System is to provide resources to meet the community's informational needs. These resources include services and programs to stimulate ideas, promote education, and enhance personal development of our community's citizens through access to books, periodicals, databases, and the internet.  We have special collections in the following areas:  small business development; job and career resources; home repair and maintenance; consumer health; African-American history and popular reading; Mississippi authors; Sunflower County history; genealogy; large print resources; fiction for adults and teens, and children's literature. All of the branches host art exhibits and programs to encourage lifelong learning.

The Sunflower County Library System is committed to preserving the history Sunflower County future generations to enjoy.  Many important events originating in Sunflower County impacted American history, particularly the Mississippi Delta Blues and Gospel music. The Sunflower County Library System has a long-term strategy to ensure that our library continues as a repository for one of the most comprehensive collections of Sunflower County Music.

Our branch libraries feature children's book collections for recreational reading and homework support.  Each summer, the branches host summer reading programs for school age children, as well as, pre-school story times throughout the year.

Additionally, we provide a large collection of periodicals and access to the statewide Magnolia Database, Learn-A-Test, and The Dancing Rabbit Library Consortium -- patrons can request a Dancing Rabbit Library Consortium Borrowing Card to use and check out materials from participating libraries.

Sunflower County Library System is funded by the Sunflower County Board of Supervisors. It is governed by a five member Board of Trustees and administered by a Director with a master's degree in library science and a staff of library assistants.
